Also Blue Ribbon Project - student's identifying by gifting a blue ribbon to 3 people that have made a difference in their lives, and then each of those 3 people hand on 3 ribbons etc. Student's then blogged about how they felt, and the other recipients blogged too. We had student use Minecraft to create learning games for Numeracy Ladder learning.

We then spend a lesson or two with the students playing each others games (with only the instructions to go by) and giving feedback on playability and how well the game(s) help the students develop their understadning of the content and it also helps them work on and gain feedback on the method writing (instructions).

Suzanne Billingtonprincipal@tauriko.school.nzDynamos - students are coached, by Sport BOP and then in an ongoing manner by lead teacher, in how to lead students in fun sports activities out in the playground at lunch time. The students develop leadership skills. Students in the school are occupied during the break and some students are directed to go to this with a buddy to learn skills in the playground through team work.

Students sign up for projects they would like to do in the community, some are staff initiatied, some are student initiated eg LANDCARE planting, Old folks homes visits to sign and play board games, weed the cemetery, backyard blitz at the homes of those who need a hand, give out chocs and positive messges to community businesses, sort clothes at 2nd hand shops.

Fesitval of Cre8ivity- the timetable is collapsed and students sign up for their projects of choice which were presented to the wider school community (based on Project based learning). Jake Plaskett was a great initiator/facilitator for this. Projects included a Fashion parade (marketing, choreography, fashion- upcycling clothing from 2nd hand shop, music), a RC track was created which hias started a lunchtime club, History games (creating armour out of cardboard and then using it in a tournament), How high can you make a rocket go using air? etc Families come in for the presentations.
